Now, it draws around 300,000 players a day. ![]() Despite being one of the best battle royale games, its popularity has slipped in recent years with games like PUBG stealing some players away. Three years ago, PUBG sustained three million concurrent players every day for multiple months. PlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundsĪt its peak, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was the most popular game on Steam, and it wasn’t even close. Although its concurrent player count has waned in the last few years, Dota 2 still draws well over 500,000 each day, occasionally spiking up to one million. Dota 2Īnother Valve title, Dota 2 was the reigning champ on Steam for years (it still jumps to the top slot from time to time). Of course, CS:GO is an e-sports sensation, but Value’s move to a free-to-play model a couple of years back has catapulted the game even higher (before the change, CS: GO drew around half the concurrent players it does now). Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is consistently in first place, drawing nearly one million players every day. Additionally, NieR: Automata managed to make the Gold cut in the sales department, moving more than 670,000 units throughout the year on Steam, and standing alongside other top-name games like Call of Duty: WWII, Fallout 4, Dark Souls III, and two of Ubisoft's titles, Assassin's Creed: Origins and For Honor. We also saw some unlikely games making the cut as well, such as NieR: Automata, a single-player action-JRPG, managing to retain more than 15,000 players at a time, managing to compete with other Western AAA games like Wolfenstein II. Oldies but goodies also made the list, such as Garry's Mod, Path of Exile and Rust, managing to secure more than 50,000 concurrent players at a time.
